Hey all you Windows wanna-be Linux guys! What if I told you that it's possible to run Linux in Windows. You can keep all your backgrounds, icons, and menus, but run a Linux installation as an application or a Windows Service! You can run those programs built into Linux (nmap is one that's very useful, as well as others you'll discover), and not give up access to a single Windows Application. Got your attention?
If you can spare 192Meg of ram (for allocation to andLinux beta 1) you should be good to go.
I have to give credit to my man DC - didn't put his full name since I haven't asked for permission to mention him here - for turning me on to this. Now I'm turning you on to it. Thanks DC! Part 1 is installation that'll get andLinux beta 1 on your machine.
**Note - the .exe installation file is over 650Megs so you'll need some time to download it depending on your Internet connection.
Also, I use Mozilla Firefox as a browser so you may see slight differences, but the options should be the same.
- Use this link andLinux beta 1 to download the installation executable.
- If asked click "Save File".

-
If reminded that it's an executable file click "Ok".

- Click "Next" to continue.

- Click the radio button to accept the license agreement , then click "Next"
.
- Click "Next"
.
- Choose an amount of memory to allocate to andLinux beta 1.
I chose 192Meg for since DC is using 192Meg and it's working just fine. Click "Next"
.
- Click the "yes" or "no" to enable sound or not. I'm not for now.

- It's suggested to run it as a service, so that's what I'm doing. Click "Next".

- I want to access my Windows directories from Linux, so I'm enabling Samba. Click "Next".

- Adding the particulars for my share Click "Next".

- I chose the default location for the shortcuts to be created. Click "Next".

- No need to change the defaults here unless you know what you're familiar with the components. I just took the defaults. Click "Next".

- Click "Install" and go get some coffee, tea, or whatever.

- It's normal to see this.

- This is a just a certificate warning. If you downloaded from the Sourceforge.net link provided your safe.
Click "Install this driver software anyway ".

- Click "Finish" to restart.

- When your machine comes back up you'll have the icons for the application on your desktop, and your start menu.
Congratulations! You've successfully installed andLinux beta 1, and your on your Linux way. Part 2 of this how to will continue from here.
